The Fediverse (sometimes referred to as Mastodon) is a collection of interconnected social media platforms. NoVaLUG runs an instance that is available to any NoVaLUG participant, in addition to using the instance to make announcements.

Matrix is an open source, decentralized chat protocol with an emphasis on privacy. The NoVaLUG matrix server has some bots and is bridged to the NoVaLUG Discord server.

NoVaLUG has a Discord server that is bridged to our Matrix. Use this link to access the Discord server. The bots on our Matrix server are also available on our Discord server.

Our rules are simple.

• No harassment.
• No illegal behavior.
• Users must be 13 years of age or older.
• We reserve the right to reject, delete, moderate and take any other action necessary. Simply put, don't be a jerk!

There are a number of differences between Matrix, Discord, and Signal. Because our Matrix and Discord servers are bridged, the differences between these two are mostly "philosophical" as they share content. This is not true for Signal.
